The Parliament is the legislative organ of union government .it occupies a pre -eminent and central position in Indian democratic political system due to adoption of parliamentary form of government ,also known as 'Westminster' model of government .Articles 79 to 122 in part V of the constitution deal with the organisation , composition ,duration ,officer, ,procedure ,privileges ,power and so on of the parliament

Organisation of the parliament
Under the constitution ,the parliament of india consists of three parts viz,the president ,the council of the states and the house of people . In 1954 ,in hindi. Names Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha were adopted by council of the states and house of people respectively . The Rajya Sabha is the upper House and Lok Sabha is Lower House . The president of india is not member of either house of the parliament and does not sit in the parliament to attend it's meeting , he is integral part of the Parliament . This is because a bill passed by both houses of parliament but can not become law without the President'assent . He also perform certain functions ,relating proceeding of the parliament for example ,he summon and pro- rogue both houses , dissolve. The Lok Sabha ,address ,both houses ,issues ordinances when they are not session and so on.
In the respect , the frame of the constitution relied on the British pattern rather than the American pattern . In The British parliament consists of the crown (king /queen) ,the house of lord ( upper House ) and house of common (lower house ).
The parliamentary form of government emphasises on the interdependence between legislative and executive.
Composition of the two houses
The composition of Rajya Sabha
The maximum strength of the Rajya Sabha is fixed at 250 ,out of which 238member are to be representative of the states and union territories and 12 member are nominated by the President
At the present, 245 members are in which 233 member are representive and 12 member are nominated by the president .who member are nominated they are prominent in socialist, science.
Composition of lok sabha
The maximum strength of the Lok Sabha is fixed at 552. Out of this ,530 members are to be representatives of the states , 20 member are to be nominated of the union territories and 2 member are to be nominated by the president from Anglo -Indian community .
At present , lok sabha has 543 members in which 20 members has from union territories and Members are appointed by the President of India .
